All Saints Eve October Newsletter

All Saints' Eve October Newsletter

October 31st is All Saints Eve, or All Hallows Eve. Although its name and meaning has now been widely obscured by the consumerist subversions of 'Halloween', it remains a special occasion for informed Catholics on the eve of November; a month of remembrance for the dead, for those who have passed into eternal life, which commences with the twin celebrations of All Saints Day (Nov 1st) and All Souls Day (Nov 2nd).

St Luke October Newsletter

St Luke the Evangelist October Newsletter

October 18th is the Feast Day of St Luke the Evangelist, patron saint of physicians and surgeons...(and anaesthetists?), as well as butchers, brewers and artists. A good mix!

This is an image of the entrance to the Church of Sts Luke and Martina, Rome, which overlooks the Forum. It was founded in the early 7th century, when it was dedicated simply to Saint Martina. In 1577 the Accademia di San Luca, an academy of painters, sculptors and architects, was created, and in 1588 it was given the church, which was then re-dedicated to both St Luke (patron saint of artists) and St Martina.

The Life of Christ - Gaudenzio Ferrari

ST BENEDICT JULY NEWSLETTER

"The stories get passed on and the truth gets passed over. As the sayin goes. Which I reckon some would take as meanin that the truth can't compete, but I dont believe that. I think that when the lies are all told and forgot the truth will be there yet. It don't move about from place to place and it dont change from time to time. You can't corrupt it any more than you can salt salt.

You can't corrupt it because that's what it is."

-Cormac McCarthy,  No Country for Old Men

Lest we forget

Gracious and loving God, open our minds to your vision as we remember all who suffered through Australia and New Zealand’s involvement in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. Grant all those who sacrificed health and life for the good of all, the gift of your peace. May we who inherit the freedom for which they fought become instruments of your peace in our homes, workplaces and world. We ask this prayer through Christ our Lord.
