We, Catholic Medical Professionals of Australia, desire to grow in the spirit of Christ in our personal and professional lives, to bring His Spirit to all in our daily work; and seek to assist the Vicar of Christ, the Bishops, and the whole Church with our particular knowledge, skills, and experience; and having sought and received the endorsement and support of The Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, do at this moment convene and agree to form a Private Association of Christ’s Faithful, under canons 298-329 of the Code of Canon Law, to be known as the Australian Catholic Medical Association and to be governed by the following Constitution and By-Laws.
Aims and Objectives
- To encourage and assist Catholic Medical Professionals and students in growing in faith and pursuing sanctity, especially in the integration of their faith and medical practice, and to enable the provision of excellence in ethical health care per the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- To uphold the principles of the Catholic Faith in the science and practice of medicine, respecting the life and dignity of every human being from conception to natural end.
- To assist the Church, through liaison and support of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, in its work of advancing and communicating Catholic medical ethics to the Medical and Healthcare Professions and its students and by supporting the Catholic health sector in the faithful delivery of ethical healthcare.
- To build and promote a supportive community for members of the Australian Catholic Medical Associations at both National and State/Territory levels and to represent them faithfully at relevant national and international forums.
- To foster communication and collaboration with international Catholic Medical Organisations as an ongoing and active member of FIAMC (Fédération Internationale des Associations de Médecins Catholiques).
- To foster communication and collaboration with other medical associations and colleagues who support ethical healthcare based on the sanctity of human life and the inherent dignity of all human beings.
- To contribute to public debate in relation to issues affecting healthcare and professional standards, relevant to the Association’s members.
